Roderick McDonald is my 2nd-Great Grandfather on the Crosby side and today is the anniversary of his birth. He was born 178 years ago today, on August 19, 1833, in Inverness, Nova Scotia.
Because there is more than one McDonald family in my line, I will list my lineage now:
Roderick McDonald > Angus McDonald > Catherine (McDonald) Crosby > Maurice Crosby > Maurice Crosby Jr.
In 1865, Roderick married Mary McGinnis and they settled in near the town of Judique in the County of Inverness, Nova Scotia.
Facts gleaned from Canadian census records:
- Both of his parents were born in Scotland.
- He was Roman Catholic
- He spoke Gaelic and could read/write/speak English.
Roderick and Mary had 6 children:
- Rachel
- Bella Anne
- Margaret
- Archibald
- Angus John (aka: John Angus)
- Mary
Roderick is the last branch in my tree. I have not been able to identify his parents or any siblings. He was born before government birth records were kept. The one hope I still have is that he was baptized and church records exist. As I have mentioned in other posts, finding a specific McDonald in Nova Scotia is difficult. There were so many! And the first name of Roderick was very common.
